Winding back the clock to a few years ago, high street foundations were renowned for being cakey, oily and, let's face it, pretty useless. It was almost impossible to find the right colour match. Nowadays however, high street shelves are stacked with complexion-perfecting foundations that work just as well as our high end favourites. Now whilst nothing compares to my MAC studio fix foundation for coverage and shade, I have discovered a few that come pretty pretty close.
I am always searching the web for good foundations and I'm not ashamed to say I have more than a girl could need. But, for someone who loves foundation, buying high end every time comes at a price. So I am always completely open to trying whatever alternatives I can get my hands on. I do switch between different ones according to the look, finish and coverage that I am going for but here is a list of my favourite high street foundations to date.
I cannot recommend this foundation enough! It is so comfortable on the skin and easy to blend. At first I wasn't too sure on the coverage (sheer to medium) as I love a matte finish however the more I've used it the more in love I've become. If you want an all day flawless face that isn't too dewy or too matte then this is the one! I'm someone who almost can never find a perfect match, so I usually tend to wing it, but not with this one! There are so many shades available you are almost guaranteed to find your colour. Although it is a pretty small bottle, you can't knock it for the price!
I don't think I have a bad word to say about this! This is probably my favourite high street liquid foundation because it is so buildable! The consistency is very runny so you only need to use little amounts at a time, but once layered its medium to full coverage with the most glowing finish ever. Its really lightweight so its perfect for mixing with other foundations if you like a thicker consistency. Well well well worth buying.
Okay so this is my favourite foundation for when I fake tan. This liquid foundation has very high coverage and leaves an airbrushed, pore free canvas. I always apply this with a sponge for a smooth and matte finish. However, I wouldn't recommend this foundation for paler skin. In fact, its my worst nightmare when I'm not tanned! Although it has great coverage, there aren't that many shades available and the lightest shade this foundation comes in has an orangey tone.
As far as high street makeup goes, Makeup Revolution is definitely one of my favourites. And this foundation is amazing. It has a lightweight yet buildable coverage and comes in an incredible 24 skin-true shades with a variety of different under tones. I have quite pinkish to neutral undertones and I find F1 the perfect match. It has an oil-free yet creamy formula that sets to a long-lasting demi matte finish. And it doesn't cling to dry areas! If you are someone who struggles to find a good colour match definitely try this foundation!
This is my go-to foundation if I'm quickly doing my makeup in the morning, or if I'm running around throughout the day. If you have dry skin I definitely recommend using a hydrating primer before hand because it can cling to some areas. I have a tiny bit of dryness around my nose but with the right primer and sponge it looks flawless! The versatility is amazing too. You can build it up to your desired coverage. I always use a concealer under my eyes because I like the highlighted, slightly more awake, look but this foundation does not need any help with covering blemishes, redness or dark circles!
So those are my top five favourite high street foundations. I hope this helped if you are on the look out for an affordable foundation!
Love, Ella.
